After my proposal to create a site specific wall drawing in the lower RSA galleries with SSA was accepted I spent some time looking at the exterior of the gallery building and considering its designs and repeat patterns. The emphasis on curves and organic, free flowing lines resonated with the motifs I have used in my work in the past and I found a range of imagery which I could abstract and translate. My intention is to create a drawing work in situ somewhere in the gallery in response in some way, however small, with the space both inside and out. I plan to create the bulk of the work over a period of approximately five days before the exhibition opens, which will grow and evolve whilst the rest of the exhibition is also developing its own character, and then continue to add to the work more sporadically throughout the exhibition from 4 February to 1 March 2012.

Previously I have created drawings which grow and evolve in a space rather than being reproduced mechanically according to a predetermined plan and this is exactly how I plan to approach this work too. There is an element of performance involved in working this way which excites me and I also hope the work comes to be understood as a process of making as apposed to a complete end product.
